International Gold Cup
The International Gold Cup is an annual steeplechase horse race held at Cheltenham Racecourse in Gloucestershire, England. First run in 1960, it is one of the most prestigious races in National Hunt racing, and is open to horses aged four years and over.
The race is run over a distance of about three and a quarter miles (5,250 meters) and features 22 fences. The course is considered to be one of the most challenging in the world, and requires horses to have both stamina and jumping ability.
The International Gold Cup is a Grade 1 race, the highest level of National Hunt racing. It is also one of the most valuable races in the sport, with a prize fund of over £600,000.
The race has been won by some of the most famous names in National Hunt racing, including Arkle, Desert Orchid, and Best Mate. In recent years, the race has been dominated by Irish horses, with the last four winners all hailing from Ireland.
