International Gold Demonstrator Tractors
International Harvester Company (IHC) produced a series of “Gold Demonstrator” tractors as promotional vehicles for its Farmall brand. These tractors were painted in a distinctive gold color and featured advanced features and equipment.
History
The first International Gold Demonstrator tractors were introduced in 1955 as part of IHC’s 50th anniversary celebration. These tractors were based on the Farmall 560 and 660 models. They were equipped with a number of special features, including:
* Gold paint
* Chrome trim
* Leather upholstery
* Air conditioning
* Power steering
* Five-speed transmission
The Gold Demonstrator tractors were used by IHC dealers to showcase the company’s latest technology and capabilities. They were also used in parades and other promotional events.
Models
IHC produced a total of four different models of Gold Demonstrator tractors:
* Farmall 560 Gold Demonstrator (1955)
* Farmall 660 Gold Demonstrator (1955)
* Farmall 856 Gold Demonstrator (1956)
* Farmall 450 Gold Demonstrator (1957)
The Farmall 856 Gold Demonstrator was the most powerful of the four models, with a 264-cubic-inch V8 gasoline engine. It was also the most expensive, with a price tag of $6,950.
Legacy
The International Gold Demonstrator tractors are considered to be among the most iconic farm tractors ever built. They are highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts.
Today, there are only a handful of original Gold Demonstrator tractors known to exist. Most of them are on display in museums or private collections.
