International Gold: 49ers Starter Emmanuel Moseley
Emmanuel Moseley is making a name for himself as one of the most dynamic young cornerbacks in the NFL. After going undrafted out of Tennessee in 2018, Moseley has emerged as a key starter for the San Francisco 49ers.
A native of Covington, Georgia, Moseley played college football as a walk-on at Tennessee. He gradually worked his way up the depth chart and became a full-time starter as a senior. During his collegiate career, Moseley recorded 17 interceptions, 45 pass breakups, and forced 3 fumbles.
Despite his impressive college resume, Moseley’s NFL prospects were uncertain. He was considered undersized and lacking the elite athleticism of many top draft prospects. However, the 49ers gave him an opportunity as an undrafted free agent.
During his first two seasons in San Francisco, Moseley played primarily on special teams. But in 2020, he seized his chance when starting cornerback Richard Sherman was injured. Moseley’s performance exceeded expectations, as he posted 4 interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and forced 1 fumble in just 8 starts.
Mosley’s strong play continued in 2021, earning him a starting role alongside Pro Bowler Jason Verrett. He finished the season with 5 interceptions, 15 pass breakups, and forced 2 fumbles, helping the 49ers reach the NFC Championship Game.
Mosley’s success on the field has also brought international recognition. He is the first player of Nigerian descent to start at cornerback for the 49ers. His Nigerian heritage has given him a unique perspective and pride.
